internet explorer

when the screen shows a microsoft internet explorer
update, as it starts to update a screen comes up that
reads failed to apply updates. it is then stopped.

any help would be appreciated. i am a beginner to the
computer.

Hi Christine,

Set control panel/folder options/view tab to see hidden and operating system
files.

Then locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt. Open it and
scroll to the bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against this
site:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
