This morning, my internet explorer session was directed to
windows update. I selected the recommended updates and
downloaded them the standard way. After rebooting, internet
explorer did not work properly. I could open the
www.google.com web page, but I could not go to any other
page, such as support.microsoft.com. When try to open that
page, I get an error message: "Microsoft Internet Explorer
has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." I have visual c, so I can debug.
When I do so, I get the error message " unhandled exception
in iexplorer.exe (urlmon.dll) 0xc0000005 access
violation:". The
pointer in the debugger is pointed to the line:
1A407BFA push dword ptr [ecx+1Ch]
I downloaded and installed netscape then then tried to
reinstall internet explorer. My first try did not fix the
problem. I wonder whether there is a buggy installation
file on the microsoft web site. Can someone check this?
