Internet explorer very slow after downloading windows updates

I went to the windows update site and down loaded
Successful Sunday, May 23, 2004 Update for Windows XP
Shop for Music Online Link (KB833998) Web site
Successful Sunday, May 23, 2004 Update for Windows Media
Player 9 Series (KB837272) Web site

Ever since, the web browser had operated very slowly.
When i go to the task manager, SYMPROXYSVC.EXE program is
using 99% of the CPU, and it takes minutes to load
pages. Has anyone experienced then, and how do i fix?
or how do I back out the two updates to get back to where
I was before?
