Internet explorer stops working after an hour or so

I just bought a new sony vaio PCV-V1 and am having some
problems the internet works fine but after an hour or so
it says the page cannot be displayed on every website i
go on I know I am connected because msn messenger still
works please help

If it helps im using windows XP and bt broadband as my
connection please any help would be apreciated
 
Have you ran any spyware, anti-virus etc? Have you tried to refresh the
pages? Which version of IE are you running?
 
Angie. I had a similar problem some months ago. The only way I could get back
onto the internet was, I can't remember, whether I had to reboot my system,
or close and reopen my internet connection. Anyway the problem was finally
traced to a faulty modem. A second scenerio is the fact that some services
will disconnect automatically if there is no activity after a period of time.
