internet explorer shutdown

When I connect online and start browsing the internet, I
get an error message that tells me that it is going to
shutdown my computer with a counter that is counting down
from 60 seconds. Once it hits 0 my computer restarts I am
not able to download any updates because I never have
enough time. Please reply with what I can do to resolve
this. Thank you!
