Is there a default setting that leaves the http:// in the
address bar?
Thanks

I do not believe there is, but there is no reason you need to have that
before you type in a web address. The default protocol is http:// so if
you type in www.google.com, it will automatically prepend the http://

you type in www.google.com, it will automatically prepend the http://
and if you enter "google" and hit Ctl-Enter, IE will
prepend the "www." and add the ".com".

Be careful with this method though, as it tries www and com first. If you
were trying to get to an .org this way, and a .com existed, you would be
redirected to the .com first.
