Internet Explorer Script Errors

This is a really bizarre error that II have never seen before. I'm running
three PCs. Two were running Windows XP and one Windows 2000 Server and while
not without their problems, browsing generally worked without any problems in
any Browser.

Now all three PCs have been hit at once by the same problem. What happens is
this:-

Site with JavaScript (normally JavaScript anyway) tend to show up a yellow
triangle on the bottom left and always have a script error even though the
site doesn't have any. I first noticed this with www.creative.com and their
software auto update feature. This also happens though on www.adobe.co.uk. I
now cannot download Adobe Reader and I have no idea why! This won't even work
with FireFox.

I don't know what could have gone wrong with Windows. The PC I am using to
type this has been rebuilt 4 times now and still has the same issue.

I can't see how my router/gateway could be at fault as this has happened in
the past month and not before.

Yes it is disabled. Or at least it was.

I tried a reset to defaults on the advanced as well at the suggestion of a
McAfee tech support person.

I don't believe this is an IE specific issue as it also happens in FireFox.

I have found the answer to this. It was the last thing to check.

My router is also a hardware firewall. I remembered that the problem only
started after I reset the router a while ago. When setting it up again I made
some firewall changes in an attempt to make the router more secure as it
appeared someone had gained access to it.

I didn't realise until last night after finally managing to reset the router
again that these very attempts to make the PC more secure were in fact
blocking JavaScript. Once reset to defaults and Internet access settings
corrected, all three PCs can now access the internet properly with all
Javascript sites working normally.
