Internet Explorer Script Error

Hi,

Help! I'm under attack. After getting my new computer up
and running, I started getting hit by pop up ads so I
bought "Ad-Subtract" anti pop up software. That takes
care of almost all the pop ups, but I still get annoying
error messages all the time which fill my screen,
interrupt my typing, or obscure my scenic screensavers if
I am not at the computer, forcing me to come over and
tell it to "stop running scripts". How do I prevent this
annoyance?

I should add that I am moving to another city at the end
of this month, so I'm guessing that with a new ISP
address, I will be invisible from spammers and pop-up
devils - at least until I attract attention with web-
surfing. Is this a fair assumption?

Still, I would love to deliver a clean blow to these
attackers right now if that is possible. I have the
latest Norton anti- Virus Software on my computer which I
thought had some sort of protection from scripts, but
apparently not. Actually, I don't even know what a script
means in computerese.

Thanks for any help here,

Jordan

Have not had any popups in the last 4 months/
Install a ZoneAlarm the firewall and this host file that Mike Burgess
maintains.

The best way is to block the server from tracking you in the first place
Blocking Ads with a Hosts File and AdShield. Under the Security Tab download
the hosts.zip file.

Some kind fellow with a screen name of YKNOT replied to
my message. I followed his instructions and downloaded
the freeware: Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search and
Destroy. I ran the latter of these and now I don't have a
problem with scripts. I think my computer runs faster
also. Thank you very much. Do I need both these programs?

It's a good idea to have a couple of such programs - one will usually catch something the other has missed.
I use Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware. And don't forget to run their auto-update feature each time you use them to keep their definition files up-to-date - much the same as you would for your anti-virus software.

Spybot identifies malware and gives you a tool to remove it. Always seek
updates before each use, even right out of the box.

SpywareBlaster disallows the Registry "hooks" malware uses to prevent more
"infections." It, too, should be updated and run regularly.
