I installed Windows Media Player 9 under Windows XP.
Each time I open WMP I get the message

Internet explorer script error
An error occured in the script on this page
Line 267
Char 72
Error Expected
Code 0
URL
http://windowsmedia.com/mg/home.asp...y Computer Inc.&locale=409&version=9.0.0.2980

If I click OK MWP appears to function well.

I have tried in IE

Tools menu > Internet Options > Programs tab > Click the Reset Web
Settings button.

Tools > Internet Options > advanced tab
"disable script debigging" (it was checked).
"displaying notifications about every script error" (it was
unchecked).

I have tried in WMP

Tools > options > Player tab > enable the box that says "connect to
the internet."

Note that I have my IE home page set to blank, The default page is
http:\\www.mooneysbay.com. Why is the default page appearing in the
error message?

Please help, Carlos

Common script errors messages can be eliminated by Clicking:
Menu: Tools - Internet Options - Advanced tab.
Check "Disable script debugging"
Uncheck "Display a notification about every script error"

If still no joy then you may need this.

Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0. Please choose the
download appropriate for your operating system.

Thank you Henry but I already had tried your 1st suggestion and the
2nd one does not apply to my XP operating system. However, I will keep
the link to scripting downloads and check it from time to time to see
if there is one for XP, In the meantime I would appreciate any other
help.

WMP9 took about 1 min to open today (much longer than usual) and the
script error problem did not show.

Yesterday I deleted the address of the default home page (it was
showing in the url that WMP was trying to open - see below) that but
did not solve the problem. Maybe the computer needed to be shut down
and restarted?

I did more thinking and it is possible that the script error problem
was fixed after running Norton System Works the previous night. It
found 5 invalid Activex/COM entries in the registry which I told NSW
to correct. By the way, I suspect these 5 registry errors were caused
by the installation of WMP9.
