I do not know how I replaced the IE RC1 on my Vista RC1 with IE 7+. Does
anybody know how to re-install the IE RC1 on Vista RC1. The IE RC1 site does
not list Vista as one of the OSes.

The version if IE 7 in Windows Vista contains newer code than the one for XP
and Server 2003. You will be unable to install on Vista RC1.

I cannot believe nor understand why people want to try to replace Vistas
built in programs with XP-versions #

Don't they wonder why all few weeks we see newer vista-builds that contain
always what is the latest ?

hm..

Especially since the IE7 RC1 download page clearly says what OS's it is for.

In my many attempts at trying different programs
on Vista, I have received numerous warnings
telling me such and such software will not run
on this version of Windows. Got it about 9 times
when trying to install Office 2003, finally got it to
work, and it works great. There should be the same
type of warning for the WinXP version of IE7. The
dam download site should see what OS you have
and not let you download it.

WinXP IE7 version shouldn't even be allowed to download
to a Vista machine.

If WMP can check your OS before installation, then an install
of IE7 should be able to do the same.

I think to be a little fair to the OP, there is a warning in the programs
centre that there is a newer version of IE7 available and to install it.
However when I tried this it refused to install as it says it was for XP.
Vista should not really be forwarding people to incompatible versions.

Exactly. I brought this up about two weeks ago.
