Internet Explorer problem

Have WinXP on new HP with LAN connection to internet. When trying to use 'Favorites' in IE6 - web site will not open and computer freezes, forcing me to shut down and restart so we resorted to typing in websites. All went well till Son forgot and selected 'Favorites' yesterday. Now IE opens, but we cannot go to websites and can't close Favorites. Is there a simple fixable solution??

Hi Mel,

Run these cleaners for starters. And if need be or in the meantime,
manually clean out your Favorites Folder.

Sounds good, but cannot access any website to download and am unable to manually clean out Favorites folder. IE opens but cannot close Favorites folder nor access websites.

Your favorites folder is located here:

Windows Explorer/Document and Settings/<user name>/Favorites.
