Internet Explorer problem

I am having the same problem. I spent all day restoring and reinstalling my
virus updates. This is awful. I hope someone comes up with a fix.

What version of IE are you running and have you loaded the latest SP1? What
O/S are you on? I'm having the same problem and one other user on here says
the problem started for him when he loaded IE 6 SP1. I think that maybe
that's when I started having the problem too.

Using Windows XP home edition, IE 6. Problem occurred unexpectedly last night
on home PC. I'm at my office (on Eastern Std. Time). Will verify the SP1
question tonight let you know tomorrow as well should I be successful in
solving this mystery. Plan on running Adaware, full Norton system scan
tonight and see what that may produce.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.1 to reflect the issues in KB918165 and now points
to the KB918165.

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

Alan,
Thank you for your help...will proceed tonight and let you know how it goes
tomorrow.

I followed the instructions from Alan Edwards downloading and unzipping the
folder in this thread and it fixed the problem immediately. Software now
works like a charm!!! Suggest you do the same.

Alan...you are a hero!! The problem was on my next door neighbors
computer...she's 82 years old, loves to surf the internet but has difficulty
typing due to arthritis. You made her day last night when I unzipped and
merged that program. It solved the problem. Thanks a million for your help
and she wanted me to be sure to thank you on her behalf too. Have a great day.

The computer is a Dell laptop running Windows XP with SP1 loaded. I followed
Alan Edwards instructions in this thread, downloaded and unzipped the file he
refers to and it immediately fixed the problem. Give it a shot!
