I have Windows XP Pro installed with SP2 also installed. I have a problem
with Internet Explorer that I hope you can help me with.

When I go to some pages the information bar pops up with a message like :-
"Your security settings do not allow Websites to use ActiveX controls
installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here
for options..."

So I do as it says and click on the information bar. However, when I do all
I get is a menu displaying 1 option that says :-
"Information Bar Help"

I do not get an option to go to the options. Am I doing something wrong or
misunderstanding the message?
Has anyone else had this?

I do not want to lower my security settings as that could lead to viruses,
Trojans and other nasty things being installed on my system.

How can I get individual sites to display properly and how can I sort out
the problem with the Information Bar?

I hope you can help.

I appreciate any help or information received.

Thanks!

Hi Neil :-)

Try the following for the Information Bar:

To permanently disable it, do the following:

Tools > Internet Options> Advanced
Scroll down to Security
Switch on: Allow active content to run in files on My Computer
You may need to do the same for CD's.

As for the security:

Here is information regarding how to deal with the issue. You will need to
review it carefully to determine if you want to allow sites to be enabled:

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the
Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list. Select the
Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box, and then
click OK.

I didn't fully read the solution provided by Jan so they might've already
mentioned this in his/her post.

You can go to Tools --> Internet Options and click on Security Tab. Then,
where it says "Select a Web Content Zone to specify its security settings",
click Trusted sites. In the next dialogue box that pops up, you can add
specific URLs for websites that you fully trust and Internet Explorer will
bypass most security settings while browsing to those sites on the list.
