Internet Explorer & Outlook can't get outside my network

When I try to run Internet Explorer or Outlook (or several other programs that require the internet), nothing gets out of my network. This used to work. I can connect to other computers on my network. I have tested my hub, router and DSL modem. All the other computers have no problems accessing the internet. I have run System File Checker, Defrag, Virus Scan (most current) and Ad-aware (most current). I have updated the bios and network drivers. I have even removed the network adapter and re-installed it. These programs won't connect if I use a dial up connection either. I am running Windows XP Home edition on a HP Pavilion laptop. What am I missing? Any ideas?

open a command prompt

ping www.microsoft.com see what it returns

then: ipconfig /all >c:\test.txt

Open c:\text.txt and copy the contents and paste it into a reply.

make sure that all the DNS settings are correct. For
example, if you can ping by IP address but you can't get
to microsoft.com, that would be a problem resolving the
names in DNS.
If it's not configured properly then you would have
problems contacting other people in the network.

Are you going to post those settings so I can help you out?
