i have an 3 yr old hp laptop w/winxp pro service pack 3. had some recent work
done at a shop to remove a virus. after that upgraded from .5 gig ram to 2
gigs. it ran fine then i.e. stopped working. clicked on i.e. icon then
properties, didn't say which version. but, i think it's i.e. 7. laptop boots
right up ok. click on i.e. icon get, message that i.e. can't display the
webpage. what's the problem and how do i get i.e. to work again ???
thank you in advance

The troubleshooting steps described below will help you to diagnose and
fix the error message:

You Receive an Error Message in Internet Explorer 7: "Internet Explorer
cannot display the webpage"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926431

Problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by by malicious
software ('malware') that has been installed on your computer.

In future, you would be wise to make one major change to your computer
at a time. For example, it would have been better to work with your
computer for a few days after the shop got through with it, before
adding more RAM.

Just a guess, but it's likely that you are reinfected with a virus
(the same or another one) or some other kind of malware.

thx for the reply but we had the laptop in the shop and fixed and at home
working for about a month before i had the ram upgrade done. would a restore
to an earlier
date fix the problem?? or try to reload i.e. from the installation cd??
i didn't want to try it 1st w/o knowing it would be ok.
thx again!

ken
how do i find out if i'm reinfected or infected again with a different virus
or malware??
i'v gone thru the trouble shooting steps suggested by leonard best as i
could but nothing starts i.e.
i've tried to uninstall i.e. but i don't think i was able to that. if i
uninstall & reinstall
i.e. would that solve the problem if it's an infection?? if so, where do i
go for those instructions of reinstallling i.e. ??
thank you again in advance
