Do I have a virus?

My IE doesnt work. When I launch it, it will either not open at all, or
open a blank page and my PC has no network activity at all. A number of
other application seems to be slow and not responding too.

In the event viewer I keep on seeing a program called 9129837.exe
experiecing an application error, but my Virus scans find nothing untoward on
the PC.

Help!

Hi,
You have a sever Infection, please don't use your computer for transaction
or changing password while the machine is infected, try to clean it first,
and it will be wise if you do have an internet bank account to change your
Passwords and Details on a clean Computer while you clean this machine.
In some cases people prefer a clean install but see the links below and
perform a scan:

If you still can't rid of it either take the machine to a local professional
in your area that experience in removing Viruses or send your HijackThis to
one of many forums on the internet some of them below:
Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
http://www.merijn.org/index.php
When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.
Does your Norton Up and current for updates and subscriptions?.

Here are some links about the virus and getting rid of it:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2006-110710-2700-99&tabid=2

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/lofiversion/index.php/t4742.html

As you can see, it's pretty nasty. Time to change any and all passwords to
any and all places you have them for any stored on your computer.

Then get yourself a good firewall and antivirus program and USE THEM! There
is no good excuse for letting this get onto your computer.

I do have antivirus AND a Firewall installed, but it seems a colleague
opened a dodgy email attachment.

I have run the virus programs but they CAN NOT find the file but it keeps
APPLICATION HANGING!!!

I shall take a look at your links now.

Thanks again.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I'm sorry to intrude here, as I'm sure I've clicked on the wrong link. But
every time I click on "New" in this window I see a small "no go" icon and
nothing happens. So I tried the "reply" link and it has got me this far. Can
someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please (in layman's language)? Apologies
again for being in the wrong place!

Please disregard my previous message. I seem to have solved the problem - I'm
not sure how! Sorry to have intruded. ( My query now has its own thread.)
