internet explorer malfunctions

I am having trouble navigating since installing security update last week. I
uninstalled and all seemed to work well till this morning 4/27. when i
arrived at office my norton firewall and anitspam was turned off. i had read
that a newer version of the security update was going to be released on 4/25.
i installed all the recommended updates for 04/27. then the norton programs
would work, BUT search function in toolbar is screwed as well as searching
from address bar. please help
