Hey.
I have a problem where IE launches by itself and produces
numerous pop-up windows which will continue over and
over. I ran the Microsoft Anti-Spyware and removed
several items, but this still happens. Anyone know what
particular program is doing this and how to get rid of it?
thanx!

Which version of Windows are you running? I suspect Windows 2000. I would
recommend you do a full system scan with following apps and give this a try:
http://toolbar.msn.com

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

Actually I am running XP. I have not yet installed
Service Pack 2, would that make a difference? I have run
Spybot, but i could give the others a try. Does doing the
scan in the safe mode help? Also, this started happening
last night. If i restore Windows XP to where it was 3
days ago, any chance that helps?? Maybe a dumb question,
but thought i would ask...
Thanks.

Ahh, I should have expected that also, Service Pack 2 has a built in pop-up
blocker could help to prevent further pop-ups, but if you don't want to
install that now, you can go ahead and use http://toolbar.msn.com

You could go ahead with the system restore to see if it will correct the
changes that have been to your system files as a result of the spyware.

Andre Da Costa presented the following explanation :

Install SP2 !

update.microsoft.com

www.microsoft.com/protect

If you are within a corporate network your admin maybe
have something to say about this but if you can deside this
on your own it is nothing to discuss.

Andre Da Costa expressed precisely :
Plun, installing Service Pack 2 on an infected system does not help the
situation, he either needs to clean it first or format.

Yes I know that and therefore www.microsoft.com/protect was included.

And about installing SP2 this is nothing to discuss (after cleaning),
to much time
is wasted with to many Zombie PCs within to many Botnets.
