Microsoft needs a new internet explorer 1 like orpra which

with enough people wanting it
There may be two problems with this Roy. First, remember the anti trust case
against MS simply because they released a free browser with Windows? MS are
often accused of simply "Absorbing" or just "Overwhelming" the competition,
and whilst the code would certainly be different copying Opera's functions
might be classed as "Intellectual Property Theft".
Second, and this may not be insoluble in the long term, parts of IE are used
all over the place for many things within the system itself. Either these
parts would have to remain or something else put in place. For windows this
might be re-inventing the wheel.
MS has to try and keep a degree of compatibility too, taking out some
functions may suit you personally but may not suit many big companies (or
whatever).
That's not to say you are wrong in any way, simply giving my view of why
some things seem to move slowly or to be stuck in a time warp. In practical
terms the most obvious thing would be for MS to simply "Buy" Opera, but then
the "Monopoly" allegations would start flying. Doesn't mean suggestions are
not heard or taken seriously, just that sometimes a so called "Fair" market
works against itself.
