Since cleaning bargain buddy from my computer (Gateway 550 with XP Home SP2)
the status bar on internet explorer doesn't show internet zone anymore but
My Computer as the zone. What settings do I need to adjust to fix this

I've run through every clean up utility I could find including spybot,
adaware, spysweeper, hijack this & CW Shredder. What else could it be all
traces of spyware are no longer found.

The following Registry key corresponds to Internet zone:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\3

In right-hand pane, does 'DisplayName' show 'Internet' in Data column?

The following Registry key corresponds to My Computer zone:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\0

In right-hand pane, does 'DisplayName' show 'My Computer' in Data column?

Manually changing 'DisplayName' data in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\3 to 'Internet' would fix your problem cosmetically, but...

O.k. Here's were I sit now. I have done everything you and the links
suggested in normal and safe mode. No viruses found, no additional spyware
found, still having the my computer zone in ie problem. I've used adaware,
spybot, spyware blaster, spysweeper, hijack this, cwshredder and doxdesk's
online scan. I can get to all websites but it says i'm in my computer and
activeX download blockers pop up, I assume because the security level in my
computer zone is different? Any other idea's short of reformatting?

I finally fixed it. For anyone else with this problems here's the fix.

1. Click On Start > Run
2. Then Type regedit Into The Search Bar And Click OK.
3. Then Locate Yourself To,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet
Settings/Zonemap/ProtocolDefaults
4. Make Sure That, (Default) Has Only REG_SZ In The Type Column. In The Data
Column It Should Be Blank.
5. The Following Data Should Look Like This:

@ivt REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
file REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
ftp REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
http REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
https REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)

*If Any Of These Are Incorrect Double Click On Either 5 Of The Blue Data
Strings And Enter The Appropriate Number In Brackets. NOTE: Make Sure They
Are Hexadecimal.
6.Exit regedit. (courtesy of Stephen Allden)
