Internet Explorer has encountered.....

This afternoon, I began getting this error message
evrytime I try to open explorer. I have tried downloading
updates and checking for viruses but nothing has worked
yet. I use Windows XP Professional and Internet Explorer
6. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I can
access the internet but it is difficult to read anything
when the error message remains in the middle of my
screen. If I close it Explorer is shut down.

1. Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet
Explorer. Temporarily disable all Norton programs, including anti-virus, win
doctor, recycle bin protect, and clean sweep. Disable any firewall or
ad-blocker.

2. Perform a repair of Internet Explorer.

Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP
