Hi, I keep getting:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close error"

The error message is:
Internet Explore Error signature
AppName: iexplore.exe

AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: urlmon.dll ModVer: 6.0.2900.2960
Offset: 00012f2e

I read somewhere that by unchecking thrid party browsers ext. in the,
Tools-Option-advance menu will stop IE6 from shuting down and it does, But I
was hoping that I could find a fix for this.
The only extensions I use is the goggle tool bar and msn. It has worked
great for a year up until the second to last windows update about a month ago.

Anuway is there a way to fix this??

I got no help from Microsoft, instead they led me to Dell etc...

Thanks for any help info

Ron

Hi Ron,

Check for Updates for your Add-In toolbars from MSN and Google.
If you are using the MSN search toolbar with tabbed browsing it has been
re-branded to the Live toolbar available from http://toolbar.live.com so you
may want to un-install the msn toolbar and install the live version which
has better tab control than the earlier msn versions.

Regards.

Thanks Rob,

I upgraded to the live toolbar.. I had been running with google disabled
and left MSN toolbar active and IE was not asking to be closed... I checked
google for an update, but I had the latest as their toolbar auto updates..
After installing the live toolbar, I started getting that close message
again??? But I checked the view-toolbars in IE and it showed google as
checked and live unchecked This was with the live toolbar active(on) and
google off??? and when I switched the check marks the opposite happened..
with live checked the google toolbar was loaded??? So I guess I did what
windows/MSN would want and uninstalled google.. All seem to be working...
Still checking all out.... Guess the tabbing is better??? But now I got sort
of use to using Firefox tabbing...

Anyway thanks for the info!!! And have a Great One!!

Ron :-)

What web-page are you trying to access when you get this error?

When you visit a Web page that uses a custom pop-up object, Internet
Explorer 6 closes unexpectedly:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=923996

If MS Support determines that your problem would be addressed by the hotfix
in 923996 (and if you don't ask any other questions), it should be provided
to you without charge. If they ask for a credit card before they'll speak
with you, tell 'em an MVP sent you and insist on speaking with a Level 2
tech.

Hi Bear,

I'm not sure it's a page???? Seems like a timeout<????> or something.. It'll
happen while going back to a page(that I have already visited earlier) from
my home page after surfing?? Someimes I can be online for hours before it
happens, and other times it will happen on a page that I normally go to???

I tried your link but: Sorry, the page you requested is not available Will
try again later..

While searching this problem, I read somewhere about a Hot fix, but it was
for (I think) a different error<??> instead of mine: ModName: urlmon.dll...
If you think the hot fix will help me, can you give me a bit more on how to
get it?
I tried emailing support... But first they lead me to the OEM thing...
Then.... Well you get me drift:-(...

I do have a ticket after sending my dis pleasure to the above, and they said
someone else will email.. Ticket #: SRX060930603077

Thanks for the info and help!! Wish you the best!!

Ron
