I keep getting this message as soon as I start IE. As long as I don't hit the close button on the message box, IE works fine. It just started today....

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explorer
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.

If this helps, read here for further troubleshooting:

I am having the same problem and haven't found the
solution yet...if anyone does...please let me know.

I tried Ramesh's fix. I can not get into settings, My Documents or My Computer. I am running Windows 98SE.
I am having the same problem with the "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." I have Nortin AV and ran an update, Scan disk and defrag. I tried reinstalling IE6.

Use the Tools section of the tool bar in IE. That brings
up the same box. You can then go into the advanced
section. I had the same problem, unchecked the box and
now the problem is solved.
