For the last few weeks I have been having lots of problems
with Internet Explorer 6.0. At this point, I assume I
should uninstall and reinstall. I tried the latest patch
and it did not help. I have never had problems with IE
before. If I uninstall it (it is under programs Q824145),
can I access a new copy to reinstall off the internet or
is it only on my XP disks?

Also, I assume the only really valuable info I need to get
is my tons of favorite places. Assuming the corruption is
not within those, can someone tell me the easiest way to
make a copy of them, including subfolders, so I will not
lose them?

Thanks so much!

Here is where you can find Favorites folder in Windows XP

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View. Select Show hidden files and
folders. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Favorites. Right
click/unhide.

Q824145 is an update. If you uninstall it, IE still remains. But this
update is know to cause several problems, maybe yours also.

If no joy,

Thank you - I just uninstalled the suspect update. We'll
see if that helps. Is there some other service
pack/update I should now install?

I have encountered the same problem in the last couple of
weeks (running Windows 2000 Professional). I uninstalled
Q824145, which didn't help. I ended up installing
Netscape, which is working fine, but accessing the
bookmarks is a pain. Hope your problem finds a resolution,
maybe if a few million people have the same problem
Microsoft will do something about it.

Actually, uninstalling that update did seem to fix the
freezing. Though, perhaps, I shouldn't try to fix
something that isn't broken, I still would like to know if
there is any more recent or improved update that I should
be installing, given that I do not have that update now?

It appears that millions are, indeed, having problems with
IE now. I never had problems with it for years and years
until now. You'd think Microsoft would address this.
