Hey,

About 80% of the time when I exit out of internet explorer it freezes up my
comp (even though is has fully exited) The only way to unfreeze it is to
restart/log off, or go to task manager in processes and end explorer.exe
which results in the loss of my desktop icons and my start bar. It gets
really annoying, and I wanted to know if anyone knows how to stop this. It
doesnt do this with any other browser and/or program

Eric,

Since I have gotten the new Windows Update a few days ago, I have noticed
the same thing on my version of Windows XP Home, with IE 6.0 .

It doesn't happen with Firefox though.

Hi,
Which version of Windows?
Regardless (canned response follows) ;-)

It's likely that another program is causing this- possibly legitimate-
possibly malware.

[XP SP2] From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to
see if one of them is the culprit. If not running XP SP2, try BHODemon 2.0
from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3550.html The offender may simply be
a BHO.

Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers,
security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at
any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reinstall, or
not reinstall, a program. The culprit is probably not your firewall, but
turn on the Windows Firewall (from Control Panel or Security Center) before
disabling a third-party firewall.

If not caused by a legitimate program, you should download, update and run
Ad-aware, Spybot and (if running WinXP) MS Anti-Spyware (Beta.)

Ok thanks. I'm running SP1 and I only have cleanmypc popup blocker on. I'll
try what you suggested.
