Hi Busta :-)

Try the information here and see if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options >Advanced tab
Uncheck "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu"
Click on Apply then click OK.

or..

Perhaps your Favorites are not deleted. Have you checked in the Favorites
folder for your User file? If they are still there, you can rename the old
folder to Favorites_Old, then reboot and let Windows create a new one, and
then copy the Favorites from the Old folder back into the new folder. Follow
the instructions here to create a new Favorites folder:

How to create a new Favorites folder:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers3.htm#favorites

if still no joy check the following:

Files Added to Favorites Folder Are Missing [Q209088]

Open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User

In the right-pane, double-click "Favorites" and copy the value and post it
here.

The correct value should be: "%USERPROFILE%\Favorites"

or...

It might be an incorrect Registry setting:

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there)

Hope this helps.

I downloaded yesterday's MS updates and my favourites (sorry, Favorites)
disappeared from IE 6 but the button is still there showing "Add" and
"Organise" both of which do nothing, though they (Favorites) still appear in
Windows Explorer (Win XP, totally up-to-date). Trying to get them back into
IE says cannot find bookmarks.htm

I'll try thhe suggestions below and report back (or try IE7 again).

Tried all the options from "Jan Il" post - nothing worked. In fact, making
the registry changes (courtesy of Remesh) made IE6 loading terminate,
wanting to send a report back to MS.

Just restored to the check point I made before downloading this week's MS
critical updates and all seems to be OK.

Will create another checkpoint before re-downloading the MS critical updates
and see what happens - I've noticed several posts re IE6 problems since MS
released the critical updates - any correlation?

Hi Keith :-)

There have been some updates that have caused problems for some users.
Which one are you trying to install?

I would not recommend re-reinstalling IE7, at least not without an in-dpeth
review of the newsgroup for that version here:
