I have a problem where internet explorer 7.0.6000.16473 fails after about a
day and a half, and also takes out Windows Mail 6.0.6000.16386. It appears
as if I have lost my internet connection. However ping, and tracert both
work. IE 7 can not connect, even when I can ping the website!

Hi, David.

Please define "fails" in this context? BSOD? Spontaneous reboot? IE won't
restart?

HOW does IE fail?

And what's special about YOUR computer (or ISP?), since I haven't heard of
anything like this happening to anyone else's computer?

Fails in this case means IE fails to load web pages. I get pages not found
errors, and lose connectivity. Until I restart the computer. Only restarting
the computer fixes the problem. No need to reset the router or the cable
connection. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, on an IBM T60. All of the
current updates are applied. And as I stated ping and tracert both work, DNS
is resolving address. But IE and windows Mail no longer can connect.
Disabling the adapter and re-enabling it does not work. Disabling TCP/IP and
re-enabling does not work. Rebooting does.
