internet explorer doesn't open; error message

I am working on windows xp home edition and have had a note book networked to my computer for over a month and a half, Thursday I noticed that my son and daughter could not get internet connection, when you try to connect on an error message pops up {internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close} although it did not even connect it asks if you want to send a report but you can't send if you are not connected. On the note book all four users can connect on without a problem. Can any one help? Thanks!
