Michelle

My issue is that the Internet Explorer program will not
open at all. When I click on the icon, I get the message
that "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs
to close...," and I get the option to send an error report.
When I send an error report, nothing happens except the
help & support page opens and tells me to install critical
updates for windows. I have now installed the Internet
Explorer critical updates, the Windows XP security updates,
and I have run a virus scan that did not detect any viruses
in my system. Nothing has fixed my problem. If anyone has
suggestions, I would appreciate the help. Thank you!

Michelle,

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet Explorer
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.

If this helps, read here for further troubleshooting:

I can't find the option you've suggested in Win98SE. Does it exist?

Thanks

Norm,

The main objective is to eliminate the parasites. From another system:

Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and update it:

1. Start Ad-Aware.
2. Click [Check for Updates] [Connect] and download the latest pattern file if available. and click Finish
3. Click [Start] [Next] (System will now detect the spyware)
4. After the scan is finished, click [Next]
5. Select all the items (checkboxes)
NOTE: Right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose [Select all objects]"
6. Click Next and click OK to confirm spyware removal.
