Internet Explorer crashes--module msvcrt.dll

My IE has been crashing fairly frequently and the "error
report" says that it is related to module msvcrt.dll. I
have seen several items [with proposed fixes] discussing
this problem but never related to this module. I am
running Windows 98SE. Can anyone tell me what I might do
to cure the problem.

The references are for error messages like "iexplore

caused an invalid page fault in msvcrt.dll" and I am
getting a "msie has encountered a problem and needs to
close". Sorry I didnt make that clear. My machine has 6
msvcrt.dll files in various places but only one in
C:\windows\system and it appears to be the correct
version, so I dont know where to go. Thanks for your input
