Internet Explorer crashes as it opens

on my friends computer, whenever we try to access
internet explorer, it immediatly crashes. it gives an
error in iexplorer.exe and winshow.dll. short from a
complete windows xp reinstall, is there a way to fix
this? thanks

I don't know. How about you tell us the exact error massage at each stage.
Maybe someone can help you then.
The more info you post, the better chance you have of someone knowing and
posting the solution!

I had the exact same problem until a few moments ago. The problem resides not with Internet Explorer or XP but with malicious adware and bots. Reinstalling IE and/or XP do not work (as I learned the hard way). You must remove the offending software and (more importantly) the registry entries associated with the software. I successfull used Spybot Search & Destroy (downloadable for free from www.safer-networking.org) and in a few minutes I was back up and running without a hitch.
