I just purchased a Packard Bell computer and the toolbar in Internet Explorer
(v.6)(and Outlook Exp) is colored purple by packard-bell - it's awful, I hate
it but don't know how to change - any info will be appreciated
thanks

Try this:

How to remove branding.
To remove all Internet Explorer branding, follow these steps:
1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type

rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

and then click OK.

4. Restart Internet Explorer.

Thank you Alan, it seem straightforward enough - I will try this out this
evening.

Both - the purple background makes it very hard to see the buttons clearly in
IE and in OE the text is obscured. As for the PB logo, well I know I bought a
PB computer and I think they have taken liberties here - it's the first time
I've ever seen this done on a computer that I've purchased - and I purchase
quite a lot for my job.

Are your IE and OE windows "framed" in purple or is it just the topmost
section of an IE window which contains the PB branding? If the latter, the
links others have posted should address this.

I used your tip as I have the same purple problem with my Laptop - Great and
althour IE looks very plain and boring, at least it is better than the purple!

Thanks for posting the tip!

Hi Zoe. Forgive the intrusion and unashamed self promotion but I have a
shareware utility that will transform IE for you with Themes (toolbars,
throbbers and document skins). Its shareware but you get 20 loads to try it
out and there are 100's of free themes that you don't need any other
software to install. No spyware. No malware

Hi Zoë

If you want some rather than plain and boring, there are other
options.
You can try the theme manager Rob mentioned (not personally tried) or
there are many others. (Some do come with baggage, so do your homework
first)

It is not difficult to create your own .bmp file to use as an IE
toolbar background if you prefer that. You do need a rudimentary
knowledge of the Registry, so many prefer third party software.
