Internet explorer caused an invalid page......

Okay, I am getting the message below. I have removed Internet Explorer from
programs yet it still is there onmy desktop. I have ran lava soft ad-ware
and had over 500 items which I quarantened (sp?), but I am still getting alot
of pop ups, system running very slow, and shuts down. I found i had some
type of adware in my program, tried to remove it and it opens up a dialog
box. Can anyone tell me is this a virus, do I need to totally remove
everything? No matter what I do, it still opens up with the following
message: EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module CYGWIZ.DLL at 017f:10017d5c.

Which OS? If using WinXP, attempting to remove it from Ctrl Panel>
add/remove, will not (fortunately) remove the program.

First run CWShredder from http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

Then, if you don't have Ad-awareSE (latest version) freshly updated,
download and install it. Also get VX2 Cleaner from Lavasoft
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml Follow the
instructions at http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml and
run Ad-aware with VX2 Cleaner installed.

Hi thanks ! I have run adware 2 times. It seems to find over 400 items
which I quanrantine, it then says now deleting and locks up. and continue to
get the internet explorer error box. I have tried to delete internet explorer
from program but it gets me an error and won't let me do that. I will try
the cleaner you have suggested! Thanks

FWIW the crash message indicates it is not NTx.

Also, it disproves the Subject: It is not IE which is crashing;
it is the Windows Desktop.

Google doesn't seem to know much about cygwiz.dll
so I suspect some diagnosis may be called for
such as clean boot troubleshooting...
