internet explorer-cant find server

When I type a url eg. www.google.com by browser
automatically inserts http:///? in front of the
address. The browser comes back saying cannot find server.
I am online because my network computer is working. I'm
sending the e-mail from it. Also, other browsers work ok
eg. opera.
An body know what the problem is?
