I get this pop-up error with IE6:

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site [...]. Operation aborted

with several websites, e.g. http://www.mysteriousearth.com/

i'm using XP Pro SP2 and IE6 with all the security patches installed.

Note: the Opera bowser has no problems with the pages that cause this error with IE6.

apparemment many people noticed this bug:

A more refined search finds a solution... <w>

(Google web search for
"internet explorer" "google maps" crash
)

After some Google Grouping it turned out that IE doesn't allow
changing HTML tables via DOM until they are fully rendered.
And since Google Maps code does just that the solution was
to move the <script> to the end of the HTML while leaving
the map <div> in the place where I wanted the map.

BTW I got (on IE7b) a different message before the crash:

The Google Maps API key used on this web site was registered
for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this
web site at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/

You mentioned "several websites". Are they all associated
with Google Maps?

I was getting the same error with Explorer and moved my Script to the
end of the page and left the div where I wanted the map. And everything
works fine now, thanks alot for the solution.
