Internet Explorer Cannot Open Search Page

Trying to help a friend whose WXP Home Edition has been completely ravaged
with Spyware, hijackers, and who knows what else!

Have cleaned out all spyware that Spybot could find, but when we connect to
Internet and attempt to go to any web site we get messaage that IE Cannot
Open Search Page.

Can anyone help?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
