For about 2 weeks my Internet Explorer keeps giving an
error message that it cannot find the server. Any links
that use ie also have the same problem. I have removed and
reinstalled ie about 20+ times and it still can't find the
server. Other downloads for ie tell me I have to have 6.l
service pack to install, but 6.l keeps saying there is a
newer version already on my computer so it can't install.
This is a catch-22. Any ideas?

.
And where is your up-to-date virusscanner?

Goto tools- internet options
click connections tab
click LAN settings
uncheck everything

I'm having the same problem. I have three secure sites
that I visit. I'm required to enter an ID and a
password. Each time I try to get onto the site (home
page), I get a message that IE can't find the server. But
I can get onto other sites, secure and nonsecure. Does
anyone have an answer for us?

May be corrupt or compromised HOSTS file.

Search for the file named HOSTS (just that, no extension).

Open it with any text editor (Wordpad, Notepad, etc.),
delete everything, save the blank document. If you're
skittish about what might happen, save a copy on your
desktop before you clear it out.

Restart your machine.

All should be well.
