Internet Explorer and *.ged files

I do genealogy research. And in genealogy, there are
several database programs, all of which typically reflect
either the technology at the time or the developers pet db
program.

In order to transfer data, a standard transfer format is
used. That format is a *.ged file. The user in one
program exports the data to the file and the other user
then can import the data.

Despite the extension, the file is nothing more than a
text file built to a particular format.

I use to download the files with no problem, the save /
open window would pop up and I would save. Easy.

IE 6, recognizes it as text and opens the file in a text
window automatically. I don't want this to happen. Is
there a way to disable this function?

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Check the box for "Confirm open after download".
