Internet Explorer Address Bar Problem (Not Responding)

Two days ago Internet Explorer stopped responding (Menu Bar). When I attempt
to access the list of saved WEB addresses the list pops up but is blank. If
I attempt to type an address in the address space I can type it in but when I
hit enter or "GO" nothing happens. Even the little Microsoft emblem in the
corner doesn't respond.

I have run McAfee and it found 2 virus programs and deleted them. A restart
did not fix the problem, I ran McAfee a second time and it found no
additional problems.

A windows deep scan showed a problem with an "AVEEO" but said it could not
fix the error. It found it 172 times.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Vincenzo. I've actually seen this fix suggested on numerous posts.
Till now, I've resisted since I'm generally very leery of allowing scripts to
run on my PC (especially when designed to effect registry edits). But I
finally got up the nerve to download the kelly-korner-xp.com tweak and run
the scripting file (I scanned it beforehand with my anti-virus software, of
course!), and it seems to have done the trick, PTL! What sort of allayed my
fears a bit were the words "Microsoft MVP - Most Valuable Professional" by
your name. Till now, I had been hoping that Microsoft or HP would eventually
come out with a scripting file of their own to rectify the problems caused by
MS06-015 and its bad interaction with the HP Share-to-Web software. I have
an aversion to editing my registry, and like to avoid that prospect unless my
life depends on it. But I have been having very annoying computer problems
since the said Windows Security Update and finally had to do something about
it. This morning I called HP Tech Support (a terrible misnomer, by the way!
I wouldn't call it support!) - both my PC and All-in-one printer are HP
products - and they knew nothing about it. They couldn't be bothered and
suggested that, since it was a Microsoft problem, I call Microsoft. That's
when I came back to this newsgroup, saw your post, and decided to give it a
go.

Thanks for the help. And, if I might, I'd like to ask you a question.
When, generally, should one trust a VB Scripting file if one doesn't know the
source of the file? I mean, in theory, anyone can post a supposed "fix," get
people to download the "fix," and then run malicious scripting on
unsuspecting victims. Any words of wisdom or general rules of thumb?
Appreciate any insights you might have.

Thanks for the help.

I wanted to add this note for others. I have HP share to web for printer and
scanner. You need to go to the microsoft website mentioned. You need to go
into the registry..by regedit, and then starting at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then
to SOFTWARE,Microsoft,Windows,CurrentVersion,ShellExtenstions, and finally
Cached. Then you have to enter the DWORD Value string. Point and click away
from the entered string. Then you have to set this new DWORD Value to 1.
Right cllick on the new DWORD Value, and then select edit binary. A window
will drop down with the following number string: 0000 00 00 00 00 .......
Point and click for the cursor between the first and second 00 00.
Backspance out the first 00, then enter 01, and click on OK. Close the
registry and restart the computer. The only thing I had to figure out was
setting the DWORD value to 1. Pass this along. I saw a post yesterday, and
I am sure there will be more since alot of folks use HP products. This whole
thing has to do with the security update MS06-015 (908531) which was auto
updated on my computer a few days ago.
