internet explorer 6 won't open

Hi. I was surfing the net last night, and I decided to
close the windows for explorer. I think I have the 6th
version. When I decided to browse again, nothing happened.
I clicked on Internet Explorer and nothing! I called my
isp, and they walked me through some steps. somehow
Internet Explorer has been deleted from my computer. I just
happened to have the Faxtalk disc that came with my
computer, and I tried to reinstall Internet Explorer 6, but
a message appeared stating that setup could not continue
because a later version was detected on my computer. I
removed the program from the control panel, and tried
again. Same thing. So, I installed Netscape on my computer.
i am now able to surf through them, but I still don't have
IE. I tried to download it from the microsoft network--the
latest version, and I received another error message that a
newer version had been detected on my computer. The problem
with that is IE 6 is the lastest version. Is there a virus
that Norton has not yet detected, and if not, how can I get
Internet Explorer to install on my computer?
