Every time I visit certain web pages, my web browser shuts down without
warning. I have tried using My IE 2, and IE to view them. Does anyone know
how I can fix this. One of the pages I'm having trouble with is:

http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/137636.shtml

that isn't the only one that does that to my browser though. my comp stats
are:

P4 2.8 GHz
1536 MB's DDR RAM
2x120 GB WD Caviar HDD in Raid Striping Format
Soyo P4S-645DX Mobo
Windows XP Pro with all available updates

Thanks in advance,

Tyler

I don't crash but the page doesn't work properly. Do you have a page not filled with crap that you crash on. Something one can debug rather than debugging ads.

where did you get your msdn copy of win xp pro? i ask because what you've most likely done is upgrade a retail copy of windows to the msdn version of win xp pro. your symptoms are typical of msdn in place upgrade issues of retail os'. msdn copies are restricted to 64 bit encryption and when you do the upgrade you will be unable to view most secure html sites and are probably having issues with some control panel applets like mouseware from logitech

only cure is to format and reload your os if this is the case

MSDN? never got that... frankly, not sure what it is... only things i
ever downloaded are windows updates...

Tyler

MSDN are retail versions., are 128 bit..

You have to pay $5 000 to MS to get XP from MSDN. And you're not allowed to use it to do real work, only to test.

msdn subs are $2,799 plus tax for universal level which includes boatloads of software

the operating systems level sub is $699 and comes with all the ms operating systems
you are partly correct that it is for testing usage but there are no microsoft cops to check on what you use it for

also you are incorrect and the msdn versions are subtly different in that the xp/server 2003 versions are non-upgrade versions. they still allow upgrades but do not upgrade or leave alone existing files in an in place upgrade. also they are 64 bit encryption level strength NOT 128 bit. I can gaurentee that. Lets just say I have a lots of "internal" knowledge of msdn subscription software.

also i did ask how he obtained the disk, not did he have a subscription

if he had purchased it off ebay or yahoo or amazon etc.... he may have purchased an msdn version unknowingly or maybe a friend lent him a disk etc..... whatever the case, YOU WILL have the EXACT sysmptoms he has described by upgrading non-msdn operating systems to msdn versions due to the encryption level difference. it breaks secure html sites by not allowing the 64 bit lower encryption option as it tries to use the highest level it can 128 bit which it thinks it has due to the upgrade. when in fact it is only 64 bit thereby the site cannot communicate with the browser and any 128 bit encrypted site fails to load but 64 bit only sites work

issue could very well be unrelated but, he didn't really state he didn't use msdn to upgrade with which means he's aware he bought a shady version and is just now becoming aware of why it was free/chea

and tyler i'm not the cops and have no way of knowing who you are. i'm only guessing it's msdn subscription media. is it a burned cd or does it say "msdn" on it if not? if either the only way to fix your issue is to format drive and re-install if msdn version as in place upgrades cannot be fixed after the fact for shtml sites. once you do it it's broke for good, and requires a fresh install and then they work.
