Internet Explorer 6 problem

Need help. After installing IE6 I noted this.
I alway create a folder on the desktop in my computer and I put in this
folder all the applications I used every day, so I don't have to go looking
for them. So I always keep my folder (APPLICATION) open. On IE5 or older
when you leave folder open and shutdown your computer. Next time you start
up you computer windows remember the last position and setting of folder and
icon where they were.

After installing IE6 windows do not remember the last position and setting
of folder so all folder that were left open when you shutdown the computer do
not stay open on start up.

If anyone have a fix for this problem or point me to an article or so please
advice.

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer, click on Tools, click on Folder
Options, click on View, scroll down, put a tick in the box that says
"Restore previous folders windows on logon" and that should do the trick.<<

Hi,
If you have upgraded to IE6, you're probably running Win98 or WinME. If
you're running Win2K, this procedure will be a little different.

Try this:
Navigate to and open [C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp] Right click
the icon for your APPLICATION (on the desktop) folder. Drag that icon to the
StartUp folder and choose "Create shortcut here." The APPLICATION folder
should open with each startup. It may not be in the same, exact location
each time.

Hope this helps,
Don

Make up a file from the lines below. Copy into a file called fix.reg
which should be created in Notepad. Do not retype, copy in case of
errors. The 1st line in the file is the line REGEDIT4
Make sure your mail or news reader does not add any spaces to the end
of a line.
The last line must be blank.
Doubleclick fix.reg

-----copy below this line fix.reg------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"PersistBrowsers"=dword:00000001
//This is to fix the problem in some IE6 installations where
// windows explorer does not remember opened windows at startup
//This value does not seem to appear pre-IE6

---- end file above here

Hi Alan
Thank you for your advice. This fixed my problem with window remembering
the folder that were open the last time the computer was shutdown.

I went into the REG. and add the file you recommended

Thank you very much

You're welcome. I had the same problem myself with IE6 and saved the
modification I made as .reg file in case others had the same.

I assume either not everyone has the problem as I have only posted it
a dozen times in the last couple of years or perhaps others think it
is "by design" as every Win98 machine I have seen with IE6 installed
has the problem, so I keep a copy on a thumb drive if I go visiting.

I should have known that:
a. the fix would be a REG file
b. it would be a REG file from Alan Edwards ;-)
