Hi

I have asked about this problem before but didn't find the solution.

The problem is that I can't run 2 or more IE windows at the same time.

If I am on a web site and use a hypertext link which opens a new window, the
new window will open but it closes the original window which stps you going
back to the original page.

Also if you try to open another IE window by any other means (Control N,
Double clicking Icons etc) It opens a new window but again closes the
original window.

I have checked all the advance settings and compaired them with my laptop
which doesn't suffer this problem and they are set identically. I also have
Mcafee internet security suite but this is also on my laptop so I don't
think that is interfering.

Any help really appreciated
TIA
Andy

I'll be darned if I can find it now, but I am SURE
there is a setting for it! I came across it on XP Home
not too long ago & I'm not on a machine with Pro, so
dunno if that's why, but don't think so. Try looking
in Control Panel, Internet settings, tings like that,
and in anyting that looks like reuse or not any window.
I'm too tired to keep looking, but I'm sure it's there.
Sure hope so since I'm sure enough to tell you this!

Hi Andy

What version of IE are you using? Do you have any internet companion/pop up blockers installed?

I don't believe there is a setting relating to this, only to Windows Explorer.

Hi Andy

Sorry I've seen the clue was in your post title!

Try doing this in internet Explorer:

Goto, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced
Uncheck 'Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)'
Restart.

Does this make any difference?

Hey Andy

Glad that helped, but that is more of a troubleshooting step than a solution! I looked into the problem some more since I posted for you, this behaviour is caused by spyware.

When you turned off 3rd party extensions you basically stopped specific Spyware from interfering with IE. What you really need to do now is run a Spyware removal tool and once cleaned you can turn that option back on in IE.

Try this software:

Once you have installed it make sure you update it by clicking on the globe. Now scan your system.

All the best :o)
