hello.....I am having a problem with IE locking up. I get the message
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the incovenience. If you were in the middle of something, the
information you were working on might be lost. For more information about
this error, click here." When I click on the message, it displays this error
signature : "Event Type : InPageError P1 : c000009c P2 : 00000003".
Then it lists 2 files that are included in the error report....here they are:
c\DOCUME~1\Erik\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER33f0.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp and
\appcompat.txt

When this problem first started, I did find that deleting temp internet
files helped, but only for a short while. Whe I do delete the temp internet
files, it seems to never finish, and I get an error message as follows:

{An exception occured while trying to run
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetcpl.cpl",Internet Options"}

Also, I tried running a spyware/adware program and it has gotten better, but
I still have the problem.

In addition, I am unable to view the temporary internet files, and I get
error message when I try to do that as well.

Mozilla Firefox worked well for a short time, but that has begun to lock up
as well.

I am using Windows XP Professional, SP2, all Windows updates are installed.

This is a repeat post from yesterday but it was not answered, just hoping
someone might have some info for me.

Any help that can be provided would be GREATLY APPRECIATED......thanks.

1. In IE click Tools | Internet Options.
In the Temporary Internet files section click Settings.
Change the amount of space to use to 50 MB.

2. Restart in Safe Mode and run your anti-spyware checks there.

Hi Frank...thanks for trying to help.

I did what you suggested, and it immediately locked up. It should be noted
that the default space for temp internet files was 124MB, so 50MB was a
decrease. I then set it to 200MB, and it hasn't locked up again yet (it's
only been about 5 min).

How do I start the computer in safe mode? What about all those error
messages?

Delete the Temporary Internet files, placing a check in the box to delete
all offline content then try reducing the size again.

To start in Safe Mode keep tapping F8 as the computer starts until you get a
menu.

Frank, I did it all......set the max file space to 50MB, started in safe mode
and ran the anti-spyware program there. No luck.

No matter what I do, IE will not work with the space set to 50. It seems as
though there is a file in there that will not allow me to view it, or delete
it. It must be relatively large. This file must be what is causing my
problems. As I mentioned before, when I set the space to 200, I haven't had
the problems. But, I don't want to mask the problem.....I would like to
correct it.

Do you think it is time to take this to a repair shop, or is there anything
else I can do myself?

Anyone else have any ideas??

The repair method in many shops is to format the drive and reinstall
Windows. Not something I like, but without the machine in front of me I
don't know what else to do.

When you deleted the Temporary Internet Files, did you check the box
labeled "Delete all offline content"? That's the only way to get rid of
everything that might be in there. If you did do that, it may be that
your index.dat file is corrupted. Deleting that file might fix the
problem, but the method for doing so is specific to your version of
Windows, which I don't believe you metioned.
