A couple of days ago, I downloaded patches from the
Microsoft website. Ever since, when I try to access the
Internet, I get the response, "MS Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close." Sometimes
there's also a box saying, "IE Illegal Operation. Error
signature: Appver 6.0.2800.1106; App Name IExplore.exe;
Mod Name MSHTML.dll; Offset 00045e6a."

I can still use e-mail via Outlook Express.

Oh yes - when I first log onto the computer, I get a box
saying "Failed to load MSINET.ocx. Your version may be
outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the
control that was provided with your application."

Any ideas?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.
