Hi all,
This is apparently a new problem in IE, either it is caused
by one of the updates to Windows or a virus, any help is
much appreciated. The symptoms are as follows:
1-IE6 is VERY slow. Ridiculously slow. When given a URL
(either typed, or called from another app or from
Favorites) IE tries to load the page, but the moment that
bytes start arriving from the remote host, IE gets into a
freeze. It cannot refresh itself, it cannot draw anything
and the page that used to load in 3 seconds takes about 30
seconds to load. Very slow loading of the page and then
POOF the whole thing shows up at once.
I have cleared the cache, cleared history. I have disabled
third-party extensions, I have uninstalled any program that
I do not immediately recognize.. Nothing works.
2-So, I assumed one of the IE files or libraries got
corrupted. I tried a repair installation of my Win XP Pro.
Nothing changed. So I tried a re-installation, nothing changed.
3-Norton Anti Virus 2004 cannot find anything.
4-All the while, every other application that uses the net
is functioning fine.. I even went back to using Netscape
for God's sake!!
5-Looking on the net, I find that this problem has started
emerging around the net the same time it showed up on my PC
(Friday, OCt. 10th), and many people are starting to suffer
from it. I think somebody in MS should start looking into
this seriously.
Thanks a great deal for any help you can offer.
