When I open IE 6 browser my home page is redirected to media.deskwhizz.com. I
have Spydoctor installed on the laptop. I have scanned and scanned for the
infection but to no avail . It stays there. I googled it and one suggestion
was the Spydoctor. Any help would be appreciated.

Clear your caches, Internet files and delete cookies, then Open the Windows
Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc = look in the Right Pane/window for this
file called the HOSTS file but not the one with the extension *.SAM* leave
this as is.
If you can't see it try to click Tools >> Folder Options and select show
Hidden files and folder, then right Click the Hosts file and select open with
Notepad.
There see any reference for that site and remove it, you Hosts file will
looks like this:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # Source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # Client Host
127.0.0.1 LocalHost
------------------------------------------
Remove all other References other than those above.
Download the Spybot from here:

If you can't edit it then the Spydoctor is locking this File go through the
configuration option and uncheck it.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi Nass,
I get to the driver folder and I see HSTF MDS, next one is HSTF "
SAM". When I open it with the notepad. I see a lot of computer language. I am
truly lost. I put a help ticket in with PC Tools. Even went to Tools, Folder
Options route. JUst confused on the Hosts Files. Don't want to do something
that's irreversible.

Windows version?
If WinXP it sounds like you needed to go one folder deeper to the etc
subfolder:
C:\Einfoed\System32\drivers\etc
and look for HOSTS in that folder. Not HOSTS.SAM, Hosts.bak or anything
with a dot and then more letters.

I want to thank Nass for the help. This clear up the problem. I was missing
the step for the "ETC" folder. Thanks again!
