Internet Explorer 6.0 Hangs When I Type a URL

I posted this same problem about 2 days ago. No replies
so far... This is a very strange problem. I can click on
links all day long and they work. But if I type a URL
into the address bar, I get a dns error page, and I can't
connect to ANYTHING after that. I can't ping, I acn't do
nslookup, nothing. it's like my routing tables are
getting hosed. I use a dialup, and I'm not sure what they
should look like for sure... My Kids use this machine,
and one day I found the symantec AV disabled... I think
it might be or have been infected, or hijacked or
something, but it scans clean. if it got infected or
hijacked, I think there is some kind of DLL or something
that is killing my network. (just a guess, and don't know
how to prove it...)

If someone out there has a clue what might be causing
this, PLEASE REPLY...
