Hello,

First of all, I have to say to MS that this newsgroup name will give
customers a hard time finding this group since it uses "inetexplorer" while
it will be natural for them to look for the word "internet"...

I with to know is there a diagnostic / reporting / inventory / exporting
tool that is walking all of IE settings and exports them to a text file, so
it will be easier to troubleshot a remote IE installation?

Thanks in advance!

You can export the keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

These keys hold many of the settings in the Tools...Internet Options dialog.

There are back-up programs available for IE, for instance:
http://www.backsettings.com/internet-explorer-backup.html - but I don't know
what format is used for their backup data output.

Thanks Jon!!!

The application you mentioned is:

1. Freeware...! :)
2. Extracts all the main settings to a .reg file, so it is a clean text
file, so it is great!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me and others who will follow.
Have a great day!

Out of curiosity, I tried it and have a couple of comments from:

1. It doesn't seem to backup all IE settings.
It backs up these expected HKCU settings (and some HKCU I wouldn't
have thought of)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Internet Explorer]

It ignores these HKLM settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\Internet Explorer]

2. I used it on Win98SE and it would not browse to the backup folder
for a restore (Browse button did nothing)
I also had to extract all files from the backup self extractor that
was created or it would not find them.

On the whole it seemed to do what it says. It even seems to restore
Favorites though the backup log says "Favorites bookmarks { (Does not
restored in demo version)} "
