Internet Esplorer or firewall problems

Ever since I downloaded and installed IE 7 I cannot access many of my
previous favorite sites because they do not accept my user names and
passwords anymore. Also I keep getting messages that say cookies must be
enabled. I have the sites listed in the "always accept" areas in internet
options, windows firewall, and McAfee firewall but still can't get to the
sites. Tried to shut off Windows firewall in case it was conflicting with
McAfee but it won't shut off. I click to shut it off but it still shows up
as being on. It is driving me crazy because I really need to get to these
sites.
Any help would be appreciated.

It takes a while before all secure websites accommodate new browser
versions. It's possible that the sites you can't reach haven't updated
for IE7 yet. For more info, please visit one of the newsgroups for IE7.
